How to use the Korean convenience-store ramen machine

Buy bag ramen and a paper bowl, put the noodles and soup in, set it on the machine and press the button.

  1. A hand taking a bag of instant noodles from a shelf, paper bowls and foil pots stacked beside it

Buy bag ramen and a bowl

Pick bag ramen, not a cup. The paper bowls or foil pots are next to the machine or at the counter. Pay first.

  2. A dry noodle block in a paper bowl with soup powder being shaken over it

    2

Noodles and soup into the bowl

Open the bag, put the noodle block in the bowl as it is, and shake the soup and flakes over it. The machine adds the water.

  3. Hot water pouring into a paper bowl on a ramen cooker while a finger presses its button

    3

On the machine, press the button

Set the bowl on the machine's plate under the spout and press the button. Water pours in and starts to boil. When it stops, hold the rim and lift it off slowly: it is hot.

Machines differ by store and chain: some need one button, some let you pick a time. If you are not sure, ask the staff.

Got a cup instead?

Cup ramen uses the hot-water dispenser, not the ramen machine. Fill to the line inside the cup and wait as the pack says.
