How the score works
- Line of sight. From ground + 1.6 m eye height we trace lines every 15 m to each burst column (100–300 m above the launch site) and find the height terrain and buildings hide. The share of the column above that line is the visible share. Earth curvature and refraction (k = 0.13) included.
- Distance. Full marks up to 3 km, then × √(3 km ÷ distance).
- Looking up. Full marks up to 30°, down to × 0.4 at 75°.
- Score = 100 × weighted mean of visible share × distance × angle. Crowds are not in the score.
Assumptions and limits
- Launch sites (assumed): 광안대교 앞바다, 이기대 앞, 동백섬 앞; barge coordinates aren't published.
- Burst height (assumed): 100–300 m (shells open from about 100 m; large shells reach 250–300 m+).
- Buildings: 4,997 OpenStreetMap buildings with a height or level count (levels × 3.3 m). Untagged buildings are missing, so real views can be more blocked.
- Terrain: Terrain Tiles (SRTM and other public DEMs) on a 30 m grid. Not modelled: trees, temporary stages, people in front of you, smoke (downwind spots get it), weather.

When is the Busan Fireworks Festival 2026?
Saturday, November 7, 2026 (official). The show runs 19:00–20:00 according to the official ticket agent, with an intermission planned 19:15–19:25. The organiser's own schedule page still says "to be updated".
Where are the fireworks launched?
The official venue is Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaek Island. In 2025 there were 9 barges off Gwangalli, 2 off Igidae and 2 off Dongbaek plus effects on Gwangan Bridge. This year's layout isn't published yet, so we assume the middle of Gwangan Bridge plus one point off Igidae and one off Dongbaek.
Where is the best place to watch?
With a clear line of sight: 민락수변공원 100/100 (1.0km), 동백섬·누리마루 99/100 (1.9km), 용호만 매립부두 98/100 (2.1km), 금련산 전망 97/100 (2.9km). Recommendation counts only hint at crowds.
How is the score calculated?
From eye height (1.6 m) we trace straight lines to where shells burst (assumed 100–300 m) and measure how much is hidden by terrain (30 m grid) and by 4,997 OpenStreetMap buildings with a height. Beyond 3 km the show looks smaller; craning your neck more than 30° also costs points. Trees, temporary stages, smoke and wind are not modelled.
